When I go to a restaurant in Switzerland, my biggest struggle is to decide for one dish – and one dish only. But when you eat tapas, it is all about sharing. The more people the more dishes. So next to the great diversity of the Spanish cuisine, the way of eating tapas, the “tapas culture”, is what makes it a real experience. Pimientos del Padrón, Patatas Bravas & my favorites: Croquetas. So, today I am going to find out if the Tapas & Friends in Zurich is really worth visiting…
It is a warm summer evening when we go to the Tapas & Friends. The terrace is already full and we are happy that we have a reservation for the last empty table in a cozy corner. The waiter greets us warmly while he is already balancing wine glasses and little tapas around. We are all huge tapas fans and we came very hungry. We would love to order the whole menu, but since we are just three people, we managed to decide for 10 tapas.
While the speedy waiter is taking care of each and every table on this terrace, we are enjoying our sangria while waiting for our tapas to arrive.
So here is a glance at what we finally ordered:
- Pan de Tomate (bread with tomato)
- Gazpacho (cold cucumber soup)
- Pimientos del Padrón (Padrón peppers)
- Croquetas de Jamón iberico (ham croquettes)
- Tartar de aguacate (avocado tartar)
- Patatas bravas (potatoes with spicy sauce)
- Fingers de berenjena con miel (fried eggplant with honey)
- Camembert con confit de cebolla (camembert cheese with onion confit)
- Chorizo picante al vino tinto (spicy chorizo cooked in redwine)
- Huevos estrellados con jamón iberico (potatoes with fried egg & iberico ham)
For vegetarians, vegans & friends: We thought it was great that vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free tapas were highlighted on the card. Even if the choice becomes rather reduced, there is something on the menu for everyone.
Eating tapas is all about sharing. As it is written on the website of the restaurant „tapas is an eating & drinking philosophy – combine, share & enjoy“ – so we did and it was delicious. All the tapas are individually presented, some come on blackboards, some in those cute alu containers and others in little paperbags. The Tapas & Friends has a great choice of authentic Spanish delicacies. With the small terrace and the cute interior it offers a great ambience to feel comfortable.
Tipp: The more people you are, the more tapas you can order. So, get your friends together and test it yourself. By the way, on Monday evening you get a tapa with every free drink you order. That’s what I call a great start into a new week 🙂
